Manuela Neumann studied Medicine and received her training as specialist in neuropathology at the Institute of Neuropathology, University of Göttingen and Munich. From 2005-2006 she was a visiting scientist at the laboratory of Drs John Trojanowski and Virginia Lee at the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA where she discovered TDP-43 as disease protein in ALS and FTLD. After her return to Munich, she worked as independent group leader at the Institute of Neuropathology in Munich. From 2008-2012 she was Assistant Professor of Experimental Neuropathology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Since June 2012 she is Chair of Neuropathology at the University of Tübingen, Director of the Department of Neuropathology at the University Hospital of Tübingen and Senior group leader at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases. She is member of the editorial board of Acta Neuropathology and of the Board of Directors of the International society for frontotemporal dementia (ISFTD). Her main research focus is to unravel the molecular pathology and pathomechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases with focus on frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis by studying of human tissues and new animal models.
Pr Manuela Neumann has received the Grand Prix Européen de la Recherche award of the Fondation pour la Recherche sur Alzheimer in 2012
