Professeur Jean-François Dartigues

Jean-François Dartigues is a neurologist at the Centre Hospitalo-Universitaire, Bordeaux and professor of public health at the University of Bordeaux. His clinical, teaching and research activities have been devoted to Alzheimer’s disease and related diseases for 30 years.

He is the author or co-author of more than 500 scientific publications in the field of epidemiology and clinical research. His outstanding work on the epidemiology of Alzheimer’s disease is internationally renowned.

He worked in particular on the follow-up of cohorts of elderly people: the Paquid cohort of which he was the main investigator (3,777 people followed since 1988, i.e. one of the oldest in the world), the 3C cohort of which he was the main investigator with Christophe Tzourio (10,000 people followed since 1999) and the AMI study (cohort of 1,000 elderly farmers) of which he was also the principal investigator. He was appointed expert to the Commission responsible for preparing the 2008-2012 Alzheimer Plan, as head of the Economics, Finances, Prospective group.

From 2017 to 2021, Prof. Jean-François Dartigues has been President of the European Scientific Committee of the Fondation Recherche Alzheimer. The European Scientific Committee supports and advises the Foundation on the research projects it supports, and awards the European Grand Prizes each year.
